Desperate Need for Foster Families Across the Country
BY COURTNEY DAVIS ROWAN COUNTY PUBLISHED 10:23 PM ET MAR. 05, 2020 ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. — With more than 400,000 children in foster care on any given day in the United States, according to Children's Rights, now more than ever foster parents are needed.
That's why Nazareth Child and Family Connection is holding a 10 week foster parenting class.
The class, which starts this week, aims to teach interested parents what fostering is all about.
We spoke with graduate and foster mom of three young children Taryn Hayes about the class.
Even though she has experience through her job with child services, she says the classes help parents realize how anyone could be a great foster parent, as long as they will put in the work.
"Even if you don’t think you can do it. It’s worth looking into,” says Hayes. “You don’t have to be anything extra special, you just have to be a regular person who works a normal job who lives in a house, apartment, or trailer. You don’t have to have a certain type of house, all different types of people can be foster parents.”
Hayes and her husband are currently working to formally adopt the three children they are fostering.
However, she says they also plan on continuing to foster other children in the future.
